Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)
Description:
Carbetocin is emerging as a promising solution in the prevention of postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH, a leading cause of maternal morbidity worldwide. Unlike traditional oxytocin, carbetocin has a longer duration of action and does not require refrigeration, making it particularly valuable in low-resource settings. Clinical studies show that carbetocin is at least as effective as oxytocin in reducing the risk of excessive bleeding after childbirth. Its stability and ease of use represent a new paradigm in PPH prevention, offering hope for safer deliveries, especially where access to reliable cold storage is limited. As more countries adopt carbetocin, it could significantly improve maternal outcomes and save lives.
