Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, we’re exploring Silent Feto-Maternal Haemorrhage, or FMH, a rare but important condition in pregnancy. FMH occurs when fetal blood cells pass into the mother's bloodstream, often without any obvious signs or symptoms. While small amounts of this transfer are common, significant FMH can lead to fetal anaemia or even stillbirth if undetected. Because it’s silent, diagnosis is challenging and usually relies on clinical suspicion or specific blood tests, such as the Kleihauer-Betke test. Awareness among healthcare professionals is crucial for timely intervention. Early detection and management can improve outcomes for both mother and baby. Remember, even silent conditions can have serious effects.
