Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)
Description:
Postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH, is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide. Traditionally, oxytocin has been the front-line medication to prevent excessive bleeding after childbirth. However, carbetocin is emerging as a game changer in PPH prevention. Unlike oxytocin, carbetocin is heat-stable, meaning it doesn’t require refrigeration, making it especially valuable in resource-limited settings. Clinical studies show that carbetocin is as effective as oxytocin, with a similar safety profile. Its single-dose administration and stability offer new hope for improving maternal outcomes globally. As we continue to focus on maternal health, carbetocin represents a significant step forward in safeguarding mothers during and after delivery.
