Carbetocin A new Paradigm in PPH Prevention

Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)

Description:

Welcome to today’s episode, where we explore Carbetocin and its impact on postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH, prevention. Traditionally, oxytocin has been the standard for reducing PPH risk after childbirth. However, Carbetocin, a synthetic analogue of oxytocin, is changing the landscape. Unlike oxytocin, Carbetocin has a longer duration of action and greater heat stability, making it particularly effective in settings where refrigeration is limited. Clinical studies show that Carbetocin is just as effective as oxytocin in preventing PPH, but with added logistical advantages. As we strive to improve maternal health worldwide, Carbetocin represents a promising step forward in safeguarding mothers during the critical postpartum period.
