Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)
Description:
Postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH, remains a leading cause of maternal complications worldwide. Traditionally, oxytocin has been the mainstay medication to prevent excessive bleeding after childbirth. However, carbetocin is emerging as a promising alternative. Unlike oxytocin, carbetocin has a longer duration of action and does not require continuous refrigeration, making it particularly valuable in low-resource settings. Clinical studies have shown that carbetocin is equally effective, and sometimes superior, in preventing PPH with fewer side effects. As healthcare providers look for reliable and practical solutions, carbetocin represents a significant advancement in maternal care, potentially saving countless lives and improving outcomes for mothers around the globe.
