Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, we're exploring silent feto-maternal haemorrhage, or FMH. This is a condition where a baby's blood passes into the mother’s circulation during pregnancy or delivery. The term 'silent' means FMH often occurs without obvious symptoms, making it difficult to detect. In most cases, small amounts of blood crossing over are harmless. However, large or repeated haemorrhages can lead to serious complications for the baby, such as anaemia or even stillbirth. Diagnosis usually involves specialised blood tests, especially if there are concerns about the baby's wellbeing. Early detection is key to effective management. Understanding FMH highlights the importance of regular prenatal care and monitoring during pregnancy.
