Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)
Description:
Welcome to our podcast, where today we discuss Carbetocin and its groundbreaking role in preventing postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH. Traditionally, oxytocin has been the standard medication for PPH prevention, but Carbetocin offers a significant advancement. Unlike oxytocin, Carbetocin has a longer duration of action and does not require refrigeration, making it ideal for use in low-resource settings. Clinical studies have shown that Carbetocin is at least as effective as oxytocin in reducing PPH risk, with fewer logistical challenges. This new paradigm could greatly improve maternal outcomes worldwide, especially where access to cold storage and reliable supply chains is limited. Stay tuned as we continue to explore innovations shaping the future of maternal care.
