Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, we’re exploring silent feto-maternal haemorrhage, or FMH. This is a condition where fetal blood cells pass into the mother’s bloodstream, often without any obvious symptoms. While small transfers are common and usually harmless, larger, silent FMH events can lead to serious complications for the baby, such as anaemia or even stillbirth. Because FMH rarely presents with clear signs, it poses a diagnostic challenge. Healthcare professionals may suspect FMH if there’s unexplained fetal distress, decreased movements, or anaemia in the newborn. Timely diagnosis and management are crucial for better outcomes. Understanding FMH helps clinicians provide safer care for both mothers and babies.
