Description:

Welcome to the podcast. Today, we’re exploring silent feto-maternal haemorrhage, or FMH. This condition occurs when fetal blood transfers into the mother’s circulation, often without any obvious symptoms. While small amounts of blood may pass unnoticed and are usually harmless, larger or repeated episodes can lead to fetal anaemia or distress. Because silent FMH doesn’t always present with clear signs, it can be challenging to diagnose without specific tests, such as the Kleihauer-Betke test. Early detection is crucial for effective management and the health of both mother and baby. Awareness of silent FMH allows healthcare professionals to monitor pregnancies more closely, intervening when necessary to improve outcomes.
