Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, we’re exploring silent feto-maternal haemorrhage, or FMH. This is a condition where foetal blood passes into the mother’s bloodstream during pregnancy, often without obvious symptoms. While small transfers are common and usually harmless, larger haemorrhages can put the baby at risk of anaemia and other complications. Because silent FMH doesn’t present with clear signs, it’s often detected only after birth, if the baby shows unexplained anaemia. Diagnosis involves blood tests, like the Kleihauer-Betke test. Early detection and intervention are crucial to ensure the best outcomes for both mother and baby. Awareness of silent FMH empowers parents and healthcare providers alike.
