Description:

Today, we’re exploring Silent Feto-Maternal Haemorrhage, often called FMH. This condition occurs when fetal blood crosses into the mother’s circulation during pregnancy, but without any obvious signs or symptoms. While small volumes are relatively common and usually harmless, larger, silent haemorrhages can lead to serious complications like fetal anaemia or even stillbirth. Diagnosis is challenging, often relying on clinical suspicion and specialised tests, such as the Kleihauer-Betke test. Silent FMH highlights the importance of careful monitoring in pregnancies, especially if there are concerns about fetal movement. Early detection and intervention can make a significant difference, underscoring the need for awareness among both clinicians and expectant parents.
