Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)
Description:
Welcome to today’s episode, where we explore carbetocin and its transformative role in postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH, prevention. Traditionally, oxytocin has been the standard medication for reducing PPH risk after childbirth. However, carbetocin offers a new paradigm. It’s a long-acting synthetic analogue of oxytocin, providing sustained uterine contraction with just a single injection. This is particularly valuable in settings where cold storage is a challenge, as carbetocin is heat-stable. Clinical trials have shown carbetocin to be as effective as oxytocin, with a similar safety profile. Its ease of use and stability make it a promising option for improving maternal outcomes worldwide. Thanks for listening to this concise update on advances in maternal care.
