Carbetocin A new Paradigm in PPH Prevention

Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB-GYN)

Description:

Welcome to today’s episode, where we explore Carbetocin—a breakthrough in the prevention of postpartum haemorrhage, or PPH. For decades, oxytocin has been the standard treatment for reducing bleeding after childbirth. However, Carbetocin offers a new paradigm, thanks to its longer-lasting effects and single-dose administration. This synthetic oxytocin analogue is particularly valuable in settings where maintaining a cold chain is challenging, as it remains stable at room temperature. Clinical studies have shown Carbetocin to be as effective as oxytocin, with a similar safety profile. By making PPH prevention simpler and more accessible, Carbetocin has the potential to save countless lives, especially in low-resource settings. For clinicians and mothers alike, it represents a significant step forward in maternal care.
