Through the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of pediatric diabetes cases increased.

The most recent research, a follow-up to an earlier study, used EHR data from hospitals in North Carolina and came to the conclusion that incident cases of type 1 diabetes increased by almost 50% and incident cases of type 2 diabetes more than doubled in 2021–2022, compared to prepandemic years.
