GnRH agonists for Endometriosis and Fibroids: Understanding the Science, Interpreting the Evidence, and Applying the Guidelines

Speciality: Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Speaker:

Sachin Kadam | Endometriosis Specialist

Description:

Welcome to our podcast, where today we’re exploring GnRH agonists in the treatment of endometriosis and fibroids. GnRH agonists work by suppressing the production of ovarian hormones, which can reduce pain and shrink fibroid size. The evidence shows these medications can be highly effective, especially for women who haven’t responded to first-line therapies. However, side effects such as bone density loss and menopausal symptoms mean careful monitoring is essential. Current guidelines recommend limiting use to six months, or combining with add-back therapy to minimise side effects. By understanding the underlying science and interpreting the evidence, clinicians can make informed decisions to personalise care and improve patient outcomes.
