Glaucoma: Why early detection matters

Speciality: Ophthalmology

Speaker:

Description:

Welcome to our podcast on eye health. Today, we’re exploring glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye. The condition is known as a ‘silent thief of sight’ because it develops slowly and without noticeable symptoms in the early stages. By the time vision loss is realised, the damage is usually permanent. This is why early detection through regular eye exams is crucial, especially if you’re over 40 or have a family history of glaucoma. Detecting glaucoma early allows for treatments that can slow or prevent further vision loss. Remember, protecting your vision starts with awareness and timely check-ups.
