Speciality: Ophthalmology
Description:
Welcome to our podcast. Today, we’re exploring cataracts—a common eye condition, especially as we age. Cataracts occur when the clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred vision, faded colours, and increased sensitivity to light. Early symptoms can be subtle, like needing brighter light to read or noticing halos around lights. Diagnosis is straightforward, usually involving a simple eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. The most effective treatment is surgery, where the cloudy lens is replaced with a clear artificial one. Cataract surgery is safe, quick, and highly successful, with most people regaining clear vision. If you notice changes in your eyesight, speak to your eye care professional. Early detection makes a big difference.
