By using new criteria, it is possible to determine who is at risk for developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy after numerous head impacts.

Athletes who participate in contact sports may develop chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disorder, as a result of repeated head impacts. However, it is only after death that the disease can be definitively diagnosed.
