Female victims of intimate partner violence have different injuries from male athletes who play contact sports, according to brain autopsies.

There is no evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in the largest brain autopsy study of women who had been abused by intimate partners, but there is significant vascular and white matter damage in the brain.
