Taking sleeping pills is linked to a higher mortality risk and a shorter life expectancy.

Extremely short or long sleepers had a 30% higher risk of all-cause mortality and a 3-5 year shorter life expectancy at age 30–50 years among sleeping pill nonusers compared to patients who got a medium amount of sleep.
