Adults with COVID who have four or more underlying diseases or who are older are at an increased risk of dying in the ICU.

According to a 10-state study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults hospitalized for COVID-19 are more likely to experience critical outcomes if they have at least four disease risk factors, whether or not they have received the vaccine.
