Description:
A warm welcome to all the medical professionals in this interesting session of managing meningococcal meningitis in pediatric patients. In this webinar, the speaker, DR. Vivek Goswami has shared the important facts associated with prevention, control and treatment of meningococcal meningitis.
Meningitis in newborns is mostly caused by group B strep, E. coli, and less commonly, Listeria monocytogenes. However, in older kids, Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) and Neisseria meningitidis (meningococcus) are often the causes.
It is an infection of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. Although meningococcal infection is not a common one, it can be fatal.
