Migraine vs. Regular headache: How to tell the difference

Speciality: Neurology

Speaker:

Dr. LAVANYA LATHA MORTHA | Consultant Neurologist

Description:

Migraines and regular headaches are often confused, but understanding their differences can help you manage your symptoms more effectively. A regular headache typically causes mild to moderate pain, often described as pressure or tension, usually on both sides of the head. Migraines, on the other hand, bring intense throbbing or pulsing pain, often on one side. Migraines can also be accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, and sometimes visual disturbances called aura. If your headache is severe, lasts longer than usual, or includes these extra symptoms, it might be a migraine. Knowing the difference can help you seek the right treatment and avoid triggers. If you’re unsure, always consult your healthcare provider.
