Cerebral Pericyte-Derived Proteins as Candidate Biomarkers of Blood-Brain Barrier Integrity

Speciality: Neurology

Speaker:

Tania M Antony | HCP

Description:

Welcome to the podcast. Today, we’re exploring cerebral pericyte-derived proteins and their potential as biomarkers for the blood-brain barrier’s integrity. The blood-brain barrier, or BBB, is a vital structure that protects our brain from harmful substances. When the BBB is compromised, neurological diseases can develop. Cerebral pericytes are specialized cells that support BBB function. Recent research suggests that proteins released by these pericytes could serve as early indicators of BBB disruption. By measuring these proteins in blood or cerebrospinal fluid, clinicians may soon have a non-invasive way to detect early changes in brain health, paving the way for timely intervention. Thanks for tuning in to this episode on cutting-edge neuroscience.
