Description:

A warm welcome to all the medical professionals in this interesting session on Psoriasis: An overview
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin condition characterized by the rapid buildup of skin cells, leading to thick, red, scaly patches that can be itchy and sometimes painful. These patches, known as plaques, most commonly appear on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back, but can develop anywhere on the body. Psoriasis can vary in severity, from mild cases with small, localized patches to severe cases covering large areas of the body. The condition is also associated with other health issues, including psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and mental health challenges.
The exact cause of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic predisposition and immune system dysfunction, where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells. Triggers for psoriasis flare-ups can include stress, infections, injury to the skin, and certain medications. While there is no cure for psoriasis, various treatments are available to manage symptoms and reduce the frequency of flare-ups. These treatments range from topical therapies for mild cases to systemic medications, such as biologics, for more severe forms.
Therefore, get an overall knowledge of psoriasis: an overview
