Age-Associated Remodeling of Dermal Sensory Nerve Networks

Speciality: Dermatology

Speaker:

Abjad Karimi | HCP

Description:

Today, let’s explore how our skin’s sensory nerve networks change as we age. The dermal sensory nerves are responsible for transmitting sensations like touch, pain, and temperature to the brain. Over time, these networks undergo remodeling, which can result in reduced nerve density and altered function. This may explain why older adults often experience decreased sensitivity, slower wound healing, or even changes in pain perception. Research into these age-associated changes is important, as it helps us understand not only the aging process but also guides new approaches to maintaining healthy skin and improving quality of life as we grow older.
