Survey on Heat Stroke

A recent survey shows heat stroke is becoming increasingly common in hot and humid climates. Heat stroke occurs when the body's temperature regulation system fails and core temperature rises to dangerous levels. Symptoms include confusion, nausea, seizure, rapid heartbeat and even unconsciousness. Heat stroke can be fatal if not treated promptly. The elderly, children, athletes who overexert themselves in extreme heat conditions or those with chronic medical conditions are particularly at risk of developing heat stroke. Prevention is key with this life-threatening condition- staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or sports drinks and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours can help reduce the chance of developing it.
