Hormone therapy is a medical treatment that involves the utilization of hormones to alleviate symptoms or treat certain diseases. This type of therapy may involve administering hormones naturally produced by the body, such as estrogen and testosterone, or synthetic versions created in a lab. Hormone therapy can be used for several purposes including managing menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness, treating endometriosis, controlling acne in teenagers and young adults or prostate cancer treatment for men. In addition to these uses, hormone therapy can also help improve bone density in women with osteoporosis, prevent breast cancer recurrence after surgery or decrease sexual desire in male sex offenders.
