Brainwaves: Emerging Uses of Neuromodulation for Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders

New York, NY

The field of neuromodulation, which incorporates deep and transcranial brain stimulation along with gamma knife and focused ultrasound, continues to expand in many directions. Approved indications like Parkinson's disease and OCD are considered standard of care for properly selected patients but even here there are new developments, such as brain sensing, which are not fully understood by many neurologists and psychiatrists.

Emerging indications like Tourette's and depression show promise but also present both ethical and medical challenges. The field crosses many disciplines including neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, neuroradiology, engineering, computer science, and medical ethics among others. As it touches on so many fields, it is important to have an opportunity to present all these trends in a single forum.
