Why Smoking Is a Major Risk Factor for Lung Disease

Speciality: Pulmonary Medicine

Speaker:

Somnath Das Gupta | HCP

Description:

Welcome to today’s episode. Let’s talk about why smoking is a leading risk factor for lung disease. When you inhale cigarette smoke, you’re breathing in thousands of harmful chemicals, many of which directly damage the delicate tissues in your lungs. Over time, this damage can cause chronic inflammation, making your airways narrower and less efficient. Smoking is also the main cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, and dramatically increases your risk for lung cancer. The good news is, quitting smoking can significantly reduce these risks, no matter how long you’ve been smoking. Protecting your lungs starts with making healthy choices. Thanks for listening.
