Speciality: Dermatology
Description:
Welcome to today’s episode, where we focus on managing skin protection during extended bed rest. When someone is confined to bed for long periods, the risk of skin breakdown and pressure sores increases significantly. To prevent this, it’s crucial to change positions regularly, ideally every two hours, to relieve pressure on vulnerable areas like the heels, hips, and back. Use soft support surfaces such as special mattresses or pillows, and keep the skin clean and dry. Moisturise to prevent dryness, but avoid excessive moisture, which can lead to irritation. Finally, maintain good nutrition and hydration, as healthy skin needs proper nourishment to heal and stay resilient. These simple steps can greatly reduce complications and improve comfort during recovery.
