Urinary Catecholamine Metabolite Ratios as Biomarkers of Acute Physiological Stress

Speciality: Emergency Medicine

Speaker:

Avani Pillai | HCP

Description:

Today, we’re exploring how urinary catecholamine metabolite ratios can serve as effective biomarkers of acute physiological stress. When our bodies encounter stress, the adrenal glands release catecholamines like adrenaline and noradrenaline. These chemicals are quickly broken down into metabolites, which are then excreted in urine. By measuring the ratios of these urinary metabolites, such as metanephrine and normetanephrine, clinicians can gain valuable insight into a person’s recent stress levels. This approach offers a non-invasive, objective way to assess acute physiological stress, which can be particularly useful in both clinical and research settings. Understanding these biomarkers helps improve diagnosis and management of stress-related conditions.
