Additionally, checkpoint inhibitors that help the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells, and Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, which involves altering T cells in the laboratory to attack cancer cells, are significant advances in this field.
Immunotherapy has been approved for the treatment of a variety of cancers, including lung, melanoma, head and neck, bladder, and kidney cancers. The effectiveness of immunotherapy can vary, with some patients experiencing complete remission while others may not respond. Factors influencing responsiveness include the type of cancer, its stage, and the patient's overall health.
Immunotherapy is a promising frontier in cancer treatment. Understanding its principles, types, and applications can equip physicians with the knowledge to make informed decisions about its use in patient care. As research progresses, the potential of immunotherapy continues to grow, underscoring the importance of staying abreast of developments in this rapidly evolving field.
