Targeted therapy, a modern cornerstone in cancer treatment, has significantly transformed oncology outcomes. By specifically interacting with molecular targets associated with cancer, it offers a more precise and effective approach compared to traditional therapies.
From monoclonal antibodies to small molecule inhibitors, the evolution of targeted therapies has been remarkable. Monoclonal antibodies, such as trastuzumab and rituximab, have proven effective against HER2-positive breast cancer and non-Hodgkin lymphoma respectively. Small molecule inhibitors, like imatinib, have revolutionized the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia by inhibiting BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase.
