Chronic pain is a major public health issue that affects millions of people worldwide. It is associated with significant physical, psychological, and economic costs. Traditional treatments such as medications, physical therapy, and surgery are often unsuccessful in providing adequate relief. As a result, there is a need for new and innovative treatments for chronic pain. One such treatment is stellate ganglion block (SGB), which has been gaining popularity in recent years. SGB is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting a local anesthetic and/or steroid into the stellate ganglion, a nerve bundle located in the neck. The procedure is believed to work by blocking the transmission of pain signals from the affected area to the brain. In addition, it is thought to reduce inflammation and promote the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers.

The procedure is believed to work by blocking the transmission of pain signals from the affected area to the brain. In addition, it is thought to reduce inflammation and promote the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers. The procedure is usually performed in an outpatient setting and takes approximately 15 minutes. The patient is placed in a sitting position and the area is numbed with a local anesthetic. A needle is then inserted into the stellate ganglion and a small amount of medication is injected. After the procedure, the patient is monitored for any adverse reactions and may be given additional pain relief medications if necessary.
Stellate ganglion block is commonly used to treat a variety of chronic pain conditions, including: • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) • Post-herpetic neuralgia • Trigeminal neuralgia • Phantom limb pain • Neuropathic pain • Post-surgical pain • Migraine headaches • Fibromyalgia • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) • Depression • Anxiety • Post-stroke pain • Post-traumatic stress disorder • Post-concussion syndrome • Chronic neck pain • Chronic low back pain • Chronic pelvic pain • Chronic abdominal pain • Chronic shoulder pain • Chronic knee pain • Chronic jaw pain • Chronic facial pain • Chronic headache
Stellate ganglion block is generally considered to be a safe procedure with few risks or side effects. The most common side effects are temporary numbness or tingling in the affected area, which usually subsides within a few hours. Other rare side effects include dizziness, nausea, and temporary paralysis.
The primary benefit of stellate ganglion block is that it can provide relief from chronic pain. Studies have shown that the procedure can provide significant pain relief for up to six months. In addition, the procedure is minimally invasive, has few risks or side effects, and can be done in an outpatient setting.
