Current guidelines advocate for a holistic, multidisciplinary approach that balances symptom relief with preservation of nutritional adequacy and psychosocial well-being. The American Gastroenterological Association and European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism recommend individualized dietary counseling, regular screening for disordered eating, and early referral to mental health services when indicated. Collaboration between gastroenterologists, dietitians, and behavioral health specialists is key to optimizing outcomes.
