Emphasizing a critical, research-informed approach, this article aims to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic considerations, and management strategies related to homeopathy, as well as highlight recent advances, emerging therapies, and guideline recommendations. Practical and clinically relevant insights are offered to inform curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Homeopathy, a system of alternative medicine founded in the late 18th century, operates on the principle of "like cures like" and the use of highly diluted substances to stimulate the body’s self-healing. Despite widespread use among patients globally, the scientific community remains divided regarding its efficacy, mechanism of action, and appropriate role within evidence-based clinical practice. This review aims to elucidate the current state of the evidence base for homeopathy, examine its clinical relevance, and discuss practical considerations for its inclusion in modern medical curricula, addressing the needs of physicians, educators, and policymakers who must navigate the intersection of patient demand, clinical effectiveness, and academic rigor.
