The prevalence of digestive disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and functional dyspepsia, is rising in parallel with global dietary transitions. The food environment—encompassing food availability, accessibility, affordability, marketing, and policy—exerts profound influences on individual dietary patterns and, consequently, digestive health. An evidence-based understanding of how environmental interventions can foster digestive wellness is imperative for clinicians seeking to address the root causes of gastrointestinal morbidity.
Digestive diseases account for substantial morbidity, healthcare utilization, and economic burden worldwide. The Global Burden of Disease Study indicates increasing incidence and prevalence of disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and colorectal cancer, with dietary factors being major contributors.
