Influenza is responsible for multiple deaths and about 20 to 30% of the deaths occurring annually are observed in children depicting the poor condition of controlling influenza in children. The virus is present globally but is not that powerful to create an epidemic.

Among people with diabetes and chronic lung disease like COPD influenza causes severe impacts and flu vaccination has been shown to be associated with reduced hospitalizations from a worsening of their chronic condition. Flu vaccinations can shorten the length of hospital stay due to flu, reduce the risk of ICU admission from flu, and also helps in reducing the risk of death from flu.
