Clinical Manifestations and Diagnosis of Nocardiosis:
Nocardiosis is an infection caused by Nocardia bacteria, typically affecting the lungs, skin, or brain. Clinical manifestations vary based on the infection site. Pulmonary nocardiosis presents with symptoms like chronic cough, chest pain, and fever, often resembling tuberculosis or pneumonia.
Cutaneous nocardiosis can cause abscesses, cellulitis, or ulcers, while cerebral involvement may lead to headaches, neurological deficits, or seizures. Diagnosis is confirmed through microbiological cultures and histopathological examination of affected tissues. Imaging studies, such as chest X-rays or CT scans, can aid in detecting pulmonary involvement. Early diagnosis and appropriate antimicrobial therapy are crucial for effective management.
