Speciality: Hematology
Description:
A warm welcome to all the medical professionals in this pivotal session on understanding the evolving landscape of Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA). Our focus today is on Ferric Maltol as a New Treatment Option. While conventional oral iron supplements have long been the first-line therapy, they are often plagued by significant gastrointestinal side effects, leading to poor patient adherence and treatment failure. Ferric maltol, a novel oral iron formulation, represents a significant advancement by providing an effective and well-tolerated alternative, especially for patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to traditional ferrous salts.
The unique mechanism of ferric maltol allows for stable iron delivery with improved absorption and minimal disruption to the gut microbiota. This is particularly relevant in patients with chronic inflammatory conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), where elevated hepcidin levels can inhibit the absorption of traditional iron supplements. Clinical trials have demonstrated that ferric maltol significantly improves hemoglobin levels and restores iron stores, even in these challenging patient populations, with a much lower incidence of GI side effects.
Therefore, get an overall knowledge of how ferric maltol is reshaping the treatment paradigm for iron deficiency anemia. Listen to the webinar, grab the shared knowledge on its efficacy and tolerability, and follow Hidoc for more such interesting webinar sessions.
