The Role of Hormones in Maintaining Healthy Bone Strength

Speciality: Endocrinology

Speaker:

Description:

Hormones play a vital role in keeping our bones strong and healthy throughout life. Key hormones like estrogen, testosterone, parathyroid hormone, and vitamin D help regulate the balance between bone creation and bone breakdown. For example, estrogen slows bone loss, which is why women may face increased risk of osteoporosis after menopause. Parathyroid hormone and vitamin D work together to control how much calcium our bones absorb. When hormone levels are disrupted, bones can become fragile and more likely to fracture. By understanding the role of hormones in bone health, we can make better choices to support strong bones, such as maintaining a balanced diet, staying active, and consulting healthcare professionals when needed.
