Speciality: Cardiology
Description:
Welcome to today’s episode, where we explore the role of cholesterol in cardiovascular risk. Cholesterol is a natural substance produced by the body and found in some foods. It plays an important role in building cells and producing hormones. However, when cholesterol levels become too high, especially LDL or “bad” cholesterol, it can build up in the walls of arteries, leading to atherosclerosis. This narrows the arteries and increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. On the other hand, HDL or “good” cholesterol helps remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream. Managing cholesterol through a healthy diet, regular exercise, and medication if needed, is key to reducing cardiovascular risk.
