When Is a Fever a Medical Emergency?

Speciality: Fever

Speaker:

Dr. SANJAY VIJAY BHARATI | General Physician

Description:

Welcome to today’s episode. Fever is a common symptom, but how do you know when it’s a medical emergency? For most adults and older children, a mild fever can often be managed at home. However, seek immediate medical attention if a fever is above 40 degrees Celsius, if there’s confusion, difficulty breathing, chest pain, a stiff neck, or persistent vomiting. For infants under three months, any fever should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. Remember, a fever lasting more than three days, or accompanied by a rash, severe headache, or seizures, also warrants prompt medical review. When in doubt, it’s always safer to consult a doctor. Stay informed, and take care.
