How Smoking Accelerates Heart Disease Risk

Speciality: Cardiology

Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, let’s explore how smoking accelerates heart disease risk. When you smoke, harmful chemicals enter your bloodstream, damaging the lining of your arteries. This triggers inflammation, making it easier for fatty deposits to build up and narrow your blood vessels. Over time, your heart has to work harder to pump blood, increasing your blood pressure and heart rate. Smoking also reduces the oxygen in your blood, forcing the heart to supply more oxygen to vital organs. Together, these effects rapidly increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. The good news is that quitting smoking can significantly reduce these risks, often within just a few years. Thank you for listening, and take care of your heart.
