How patients are monitored during surgery

Speciality: Anesthesia

Speaker:

Dr. RUDRARAJU RAMACHANDRA RAJU | Consultant Anesthesologist

Description:

During surgery, patient safety is the top priority, and continuous monitoring plays a crucial role. Anaesthetists and surgical teams use a range of devices to track vital signs throughout the procedure. Heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels are continuously measured using monitors attached to the patient. An electrocardiogram, or ECG, tracks the heart’s rhythm, while a pulse oximeter measures oxygen saturation in the blood. Capnography is often used to monitor carbon dioxide levels, especially if the patient is under general anaesthesia. These real-time readings allow the team to detect any changes quickly and respond immediately if needed, ensuring patients remain stable and safe at every stage of surgery.
