Sinusitis: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Speciality: ENT

Speaker:

Dr. SUMANTA MALICK | Consultant ENT Specialist

Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, we're exploring sinusitis—a common condition that affects millions worldwide. Sinusitis occurs when the tissue lining the sinuses becomes inflamed, often due to infections, allergies, or irritants like pollution. Typical symptoms include nasal congestion, facial pain or pressure, thick nasal discharge, and sometimes a reduced sense of smell. Most cases of sinusitis are caused by viral infections and resolve within a week or two without antibiotics. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional. Treatments may include saline nasal sprays, decongestants, or, in some cases, antibiotics. Remember, managing allergies and avoiding irritants can help prevent sinusitis. Thanks for listening.
