Description:

Welcome to our podcast on screening for diabetic peripheral artery disease, or PAD. Early detection is crucial for preventing complications in people with diabetes. The toe-brachial index, or TBI, is a simple and reliable test that compares blood pressure in the toe to that in the arm. A low TBI indicates reduced blood flow, signalling possible PAD. Alongside TBI, waveform analysis helps assess the quality of blood flow by examining the shape and pattern of the pulse waves. Together, these tools allow healthcare providers to detect PAD even when traditional tests might miss it, especially in diabetic patients with calcified arteries. Regular screening with TBI and waveform analysis supports timely intervention and better outcomes.
