When Do You Need an MRI Scan?

Speciality: Radiology

Speaker:

Dr. SHIULI PAUL | Consultant Radiologist

Description:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a powerful medical tool that doctors use to see inside your body without surgery. But when do you actually need an MRI scan? Typically, doctors recommend an MRI if you have unexplained pain, injuries, or symptoms that other tests, like X-rays or CT scans, can't clarify. It’s especially helpful for looking at soft tissues, such as the brain, spine, joints, and organs. If your doctor suspects conditions like torn ligaments, brain tumours, or spinal problems, an MRI can provide detailed images to guide diagnosis and treatment. Remember, an MRI is safe and doesn’t use radiation, but it should always be ordered by a healthcare professional when truly necessary.
