Description:
A warm welcome to all the medical professionals in this interesting session on understanding the surgical approach to managing trismus.
Trismus, commonly known as lockjaw, presents a challenging condition characterized by limited mouth opening due to muscle spasms in the jaw. While various non-surgical treatments such as physical therapy, medications, and stretching exercises are often employed initially, surgical intervention may be necessary in severe cases where conservative measures fail to provide relief. Surgical approaches to managing trismus aim to address the underlying causes, which can include trauma, radiation therapy, temporomandibular joint disorders, or fibrosis of the muscles.
One surgical technique frequently utilized for trismus management involves the release of fibrotic bands or scar tissue that restricts mouth opening. This procedure, known as myotomy or myofascial release, entails carefully dissecting and excising the constricting tissue to restore normal jaw function. Additionally, surgical procedures may involve the insertion of prosthetic devices or the administration of botulinum toxin injections to relax overly contracted muscles and alleviate symptoms. While surgical approaches carry inherent risks, including potential complications such as bleeding, infection, or nerve damage, they offer promising outcomes for individuals experiencing significant impairment in jaw mobility due to trismus.
Therefore, it provides an overall knowledge on understanding the surgical approach to managing trismus. Listen to the webinar, grab the s
